Memorial Day Weekend Sales

Memorial weekend is always a good time to shop. Most places are clearing their inventory to make room for new summer items. So to avoid the in store frenzy check out what is happening online. Here are a few of the promotions I’ve gathered…

REI Memorial Day Savings up to 30% on selected outdoor gear, clothing, shoes and more. Check out the Great Gear Deals for bike trailers and accessories, youth backpacks, and shoes.

BACKCOUNTRY is offering up to 30% off as well. They have a huge selection of clothing, shoes, and jackets. Also check out the sale on family gear where you can find a good selection of backpacks, tents, strollers and more.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day is right around the corner. It will be here sooner that you think and if you are like me or my husband (wink, wink) you’ll be scrambling for a gift idea. So here are some suggestions or perhaps things to add to the wish list…

A new tent for the up and coming camping season. Now that we are new parents the good old two person “snuggler” just wont due. Check out the new Marmot Limelight 3-Person Tent. It’s a 3 season tent that includes a foot print and gear loft. Here are the stats: 10-square foot vestibule, 43-square foot interior, 41 in height, 3 pole set up with pole clips that make the Limelight Tent quick and easy to pitch, weighs only 5lb 14oz,Marmot added mesh panels to the walls for increased ventilation, and a lifetime warranty.

What Mom doesn’t like accessories? How about jazzing up the stroller with some nice conveniences for the stroller. Like this handy little BOB Single Jog Stroller Handlebar Console. Complete with two water bottle holders and a zippered storage compartment for keys, phone, wallet and what ever else Mom needs.

Here is a fun one the whole family will benefit from the Camper’s Dream Ice Cream Ball. Simply load ice and rock salt in one end, and ice cream ingredients in the other end. Play with the ball, rolling it around for 20 min. and, voila, you’ve made a pint of delicious ice cream! Or you could go big and opt for the Camper’s Dream Mega Ice Cream Ball. It makes a whole quart. Now that’s more like it.

Finally, how about some fun family games. REI has a great selection ranging in all kinds of prices. My favorites would be The Great North American Bird Watching Trivia Board Game and the Wham-O Glo’N the Dark Air Darts.

With the arrival of spring and many more sunny days to come a new pair of shades for the “wee one” are in order. I know my eyes cry out for protection when ever I step out on a blue sky day so it only makes sense to do what I can to protected those little peepers. Here is my pick for some stylin’ eye wear…

Jumbo Infant Sunglasses - This is a great choice for the littlest ones. they are sized 0-18 months. The frames are reversible so there is no up or down to them. They are flexible and have no hinge and the strap is adjustable and removable. What more could you ask for?

While your at it pick up a pair for yourself. I’m a Smith fan myself. Check out the Smith Melrose Sunglasses.

About UpsideOver (from their About Us page):

Upside Over is a company run by parents with kids and parents in mind. Our goal is to source the best outdoor gear and information for active families looking to participate in active outdoor adventures. We understand some simple principles that make or break a good day out with kids:

  • Kids need to feel safe and comfortable.
  • We as parents need to feel confident about the safety and security of our children.
  • Kids need to be involved and have fun!

While I was pregnant I came across a clearance sale on a BOB Revolution Stroller. I jumped at the opportunity and snatched it up right away. I haven’t regretted making that purchase once. We live in a mountain community with dirt roads and rolling hills. So my theory was that if I bought a heavy duty jog stroller I could overcome the ruts, rocks, and mud that make up our roads and be able to enjoy walks with my daughter. My theory has proven to be true. I have not been let down by the trusty B.O.B. It has been through the rockiest, muddiest, and snowiest paths!

The features I appreciate the most…

  • First and foremost the smooth ride. The two-phase adjustable shock system provides my daughter with the most comfortable ride and I don’t have to worry about her getting jostled around on our rough roads. This is evident by her many naps she has taken while out for a stroll. The knobby tires help out in this area as well. They provide excellent traction in the worst of conditions. These jogging strollers are so easy to maneuver it seems effortless. It turns on a dime and as I mentioned before has never let me down in any weather or road condition.
  • Second is the over sized canopy with a peek-a-boo window. It provides ultimate sun protection for the “wee one”. The window allows Mom and Dad to check on her with a birds eye view from above. The canopy provides good shelter and helps keep the wind off her face and the dust to a minimum.
  • Third I like having a choice for a front wheel to be locked in place or allowed to swivel. I prefer the swivel option in most cases for maneuverability, but I have learned this winter that the locking wheel comes in handy to get you through snowy and muddy roads that tend to grab at the wheel.
  • Last but not least I was thrilled to find that the B.O.B can “grow” with you child. There is an infant car seat adapter available that allows you to use the B.O.B straight away. We took full advantage of this and made sure we had an infant car seat that was compatible. The harness system is adjustable as well, so as your wee one grows the stroller will adapt.

Our BOB Revolution Stroller will be with us for a while it is sturdy, durable, and the best ride in town for our little one. For more information on B.O.B. gear, check out their web site.

I realize this doesn’t have anything to do with kids gear or active families but hey, it’s another sweet Outlet Network blog and I can’t help but feature it! This is not a new site by any means, but a new blog was recently born! TrailRunOutlet.com has been featuring the trail running catalogs of several top online merchants for a while now…so the blog will support the product information with reviews and details on top selling trail running shoes and accessories. It’s Wordpress, of course.. just like the Kids Gear Blog here. You can’t go wrong with WP. Hands down the best blog software (open source) anywhere, period.

The Trail Run Blog will be maintained by pro Montrail trail runner Scott Mason. He’s a Wordpress wizard already on WasatchSpeedGoat.com. He’ll be ranting on outdoor and trail industry news with his unique perspective on gear and Ultra running/trail racing.
