I realize this doesn’t have anything to do with kids gear or active families but hey, it’s another sweet Outlet Network blog and I can’t help but feature it! This is not a new site by any means, but a new blog was recently born! TrailRunOutlet.com has been featuring the trail running catalogs of several top online merchants for a while now…so the blog will support the product information with reviews and details on top selling trail running shoes and accessories. It’s WordPress, of course.. just like the Kids Gear Blog here. You can’t go wrong with WP. Hands down the best blog software (open source) anywhere, period.

The Trail Run Blog will be maintained by pro Montrail trail runner Scott Mason. He’s a WordPress wizard already on WasatchSpeedGoat.com. He’ll be ranting on outdoor and trail industry news with his unique perspective on gear and Ultra running/trail racing.

Rescue Relief in the Uinta Mountains

We had a close call in Utah this past week. A three year old boy who was camping with his Mother and friends wandered away from their campground early in the morning and wasn’t found until just before dark. It was getting really scary because the night before in the Uinta Mountains it had gotten down into the 20s. Seems cold for mid-September but remember this is in the high country of Utah.

At any rate, they found him…a little cold and hungry…about a mile away from camp…but safe. We’re all very thankful. I must say the mobilization efforts of the people of Utah are touching. (Namely, the The Garrett Bardsley Foundation and the Summit & Wasatch County Sheriff’s Offices) It took only a few hours and there where hundreds of volunteers on site searching by foot, horseback and ATV. There is a lot to be said about that many people dropping everything on a dime and collaborating to find little Benjie!

Within an hour, search and rescue teams from surrounding counties arrived. A Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office plane took to the skies with the DPS helicopter. Volunteers – including an Arizona couple on their honeymoon – gathered to help in the search.

Benjie’s mother was shaken but held the right attitude…namely, that you can’t be afraid of the wilderness. It’s too beautiful and too important to the livelihood of children everywhere. What you can do is work hard to educate children about the dangers of wandering off in the wilderness alone. I also really liked that it was her intention to outfit her son with a whistle whenever they camp from now on. Great ending to a scary day in the mountains of Utah.

Welcome to the official blog of Kids Gear Outlet! This is our first official blog post so don’t expect any killer gear deals for the little ones, compelling outdoor news, or active family adventure recaps. Just sayin’ hiya for now

There is an array of information and news we’ll be sharing through this WordPress platform. Including, but not limited to, closeout gear notifications, real adventure stories from active families and of course relevant outdoor industry news. The list goes on and on, and as we think of new categories to add, we’ll let ya know. I am sure this blog will fill out nicely. We’ve got some good people set up to maintain and grow the channel.

To note…one of the real drivers for this site: There are quite a few gear manufacturers making products exclusive to fit your children…and more importantly, to keep them safe and sound on camping or ski trips. Sorry but you big box stores just ain’t cutting it in terms of outfitting kids gear safely. So git yer kids away from the brainless TV and outside. Subscribe to this blog or we’ll happily invite you to visit the site now and again. Either way, check in again.
